An absolute hidden gem off the beaten track. We were in the area and popped in for dinner. The crackling fire was warm and inviting and they didn’t lower the lights too much so we could still read our menu and see our food. Service was attentive and not intrusive. Food was divine. Fantastic flavours and seasoned well. Beautifully presented and a nice sized portion. We all left full and happy.

My wife, dog and I had a fantastic stay here in August 2025. The place had a really relaxed vibe and all of the staff were really friendly and helpful. There was plenty of room to park, our room was nearby and the pub itself just a few paces away from where we were staying in a converted outbuilding. Decent pint on draft and my wife enjoyed her champagne by the glass - cold and fizzy, which is not always the case. There were lots of things on the menu I could have chosen but we plumped for cheese soufflé and for me, hangar steak, chips and salad. Simple but really good. Washed down with a bottle of Zinfandel which was very reasonable. Breakfast was also great - I had an omelette and my wife a full English. The dog enjoyed her sausage as well. It’s also I think the only place I’ve stayed at where the toast arrived immediately after the rest of the food so it was hot, and the butter was soft and spreadable rather than cold and hard. Little touches but they make the difference. The overall cost was also very reasonable - I would happily have paid more (and in fact did as I was induced to leave a tip). Great stuff!

The food was excellent, packed with incredible flavour, honestly one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The service was equally impressive; the lady who took our order was not only attentive but also very knowledgeable about the dishes. The setting was cozy and inviting, making the whole experience even better. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We didn’t stay, just ate at the pub. Food was awesome. Service fantastic. We got in just before lunch service closed and they were happy to serve us. Definitely recommend.

It's a beautiful hotel & very quiet. Lovely & friendly staff here & they make excellent cocktails! The food was fantastic with the salmon perfectly cooked. The chocolate dessert was rich without being sickly. The room was well presented (industrial style), clean & had all the amenities I needed (apart from a mirror I could see in as I'm short & they're hung up high!! 😂). The bed was very comfortable & I really enjoyed my one night here. I definitely recommend Chequers Inn

Wow what a gem of a place. Amazing bloody Mary's. Roast beef was amazing as was the pork. Prawns and mackerel for starters, absolutely delicious. Pleased to say we are local and lucky enough to be able to visit often as the chequers inn is a special place, often rivalled but never equalled!
