Came for the 5th time for mine and my girlfriends 2 year anniversary and they even made the table all nice and wrote a cute note. The best restaurant around, atmosphere - 10, staff - 10, food - 10, drinks - 10, everything about umi is amazing. I have not once had a bad experience at umi and I never will the cocktails are unbelievable, the food is incredible and the staff are so kind and lovely. Highly recommend!!

Umi was a recommended place to eat for me and whilst I'm town thought I'd give it a try. Wasn't disappointed and glad I had the recommendation. Treated warmly on entrance and seated immediately. Really great menu and a taste sensation for my choices. Great service and excellent front on house staff. Umi is well decorated and there is a good atmosphere around the place. Superb experience all in all and definitely will call again when next in town.

Wow. I love this place. Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough. This Food is right up my street. I don’t drink but love good food. Mind you they do stock some fine whiskies from Japan. Staff are fantastic. The owners James and Avery are such nice people. Other restaurant owners should dine here and learn from these. This is the place to go if you like nice fresh cooked food Chinese Japanese style. I look forward to coming back to my home town to eat here.

Been in this evening, relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Happy to answer any questions regards the cuisine for those not so familiar. Went for steak skewers starter and the duck breast ramen. Amazing flavours and I'll admit I nearly rolled out I was that full. Highly recommend and will certainly be going back. Great food.

Positive- The food is so delicious and very authentic taste , every bite i had enjoyed it whole heartedly. The ambience is good and its pretty clean and tidy. I would differently recommend my friends and family to visit this place for sure Negative- I think i have been profiled by the staff because there are two seating areas in the restaurant one at the entrance and one at the behind the wall that divide the place, there are people on the other side of wall and many tables were also available but they made me set in the entrance area side where i am only person there and even after me there are some people came to the restaurant they got seated on the other side. The staff was pretty rude with me , no greeting, just hitted the menu on the table hard and wait back, when the food arrived i noticed the soya sauce dip is missing and i though they would give it to me but it didn't. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcoming by the staff member.

I have been to Umi a few times over the years it's one of me and my partners favourite places to eat at. I am a vegetarian so I only order items without meat or seafood, however the sushi is still one of my favourites that I've eaten before and they have a decent amount of options for me. My partner tends to get the pork and seafood ramen which always looks nice and a good size. Eating here can however become a bit more expensive when ordering a few items, so we tend to go on special occasions. I find the staff are always really friendly and accommodating to my diet restrictions.

First time visiting this restaurant and certainly won't be the last. Very pleasant atmosphere, very clean and nicely decorated. The staff gave exemplary service, from the moment we stepped inside through to us leaving, they even took the time to try to teach us how to use the chopsticks and brought cutlery after witnessing my feeble attempt. The food was delicious I had the pork belly bao bun followed by the beef brisket ramen, my daughter had the duck bao bun and katsu chicken curry and we shared a sushi platter, we couldn't eat all the sushi and the sever boxed it up for us to take home. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning.

The best Japanese restaurant in the area by far!! We have been several times, and never once has it disappointed. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, fantastic cocktails and the food is unbelievable! It is fairly expensive but it's worth it for the quality of the food and presentation of the drinks. Highly recommend this place.
