The Portaferry Hotel

This is a very different Hotel to the one I grew up with :)||There couldn't be a better situation for a Hotel as far as views are concerned. Strangford Lough is beautiful.||The room was lovely! everything I needed (Loads of tea and coffee).||The food here is the star of the show. For Lunch I went with the Crispy pork belly, Roast celeriac, apple and Szechuan ketchup, miso glazed carrots and Dauphinoise potato and it was honestly one of the nicest meals I have ever had.||Later on I had Hereford Smash Burger; smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, beef tomato, pickle, house relish, tobacco onions, skinny fries. I went for the four ounces rather than the eight because I'm watching my figure. ||There was a breakfast provided as part of the overnight stay so I of course had a go. I went with the Pancakes, bacon and maple syrup.||All told an excellent stay. The staff are so accommodating, friendly and helpful.

went for a Sunday carvery today, I went up to the carvery station to choose what I wanted and I lifted my plate, the plate was freezing cold and when I asked for a warm plate I was told to move on up the line. We brought our plates of food to our table, and when we began to eat we realised the food was completely cold, I complained to a member of staff and she had the audacity to offer me warm gravy to put over my dinner to heat it up, I said no and asked for a warm plate of food, she said she would bring it to the chef and have it reheated, our food came back out and to my suprise still cold. Staff completely unapologetic and obviously un-trained, walking around the restaurant with toothpicks and chewing gum in their mouths, a shocking meal greeted with an awful level of customer service.

Gosh, come on Portaferry Hotel! I love the charm, the characterful bedroom, the rustic creaky & eclectic ambiance. Untouched beauty of a place. Evening dinner was excellent, menu superb. Reception staff great. BUT, come on, don't ruin it at the final hurdle. Breakfast this morning had woefully slow, inadequate service. Waited 20 minutes in Breakfast room for our order to be taken, & another 30 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. To be told also, the kitchen had no cornflakes, & someone had to run to the shop to get some! Will be back, but come on, get it averagely right at least.

Had another excellent meal in the Portaferry hotel. Their prawn tacos are a great sharing starter, but I could eat them all myself. We followed up with the salmon & 1/2 lobster, both excellent, then the Dubai Sunday, had to share as it was big. Didn’t give 5 out of 5 as the bar to restaurant service can be very slow, faster to go get it yourself, but I like to be served at the table if in a restaurant. Highly recommend the Portaferry hotel never had a poor experience here.

The staff were lovely, great views from bedroom and dining room. I had chowder the first night and I really enjoyed it, then a fry for breakfast then next two days , the fry was tasty and filling. The room was clean and comfortable and had a good big television. Only slight thing wrong with room was I only seen one plug socket. The bath and shower were good and I really my stay and will return

Drove over on the ferry for lunch . No problem parking . Good selection of sandwiches . My wife had the Open Prawn and Salmon Sandwich . I had the Coronation Chicken. Both very good . ||Its a pity more cant be done with the interior of the restaurant just a bit dreary||Staff were friendly and eager . Just a bit confused no one knew whether they accepted American Express or not … turned out after several goes they dont which is odd given the number of US visitors etc… But anyway overall we really enjoyed the lunch and hopefully can stay overnight next time

We called for coffee and I waited several minute's before I could find someone in the restaurant. Having ordered 2 Americano’s only to be told they only had full fat milk. I find this extraordinary that a hotel does not stock semi skimmed or skimmed milk. This would put me off ever staying at this hotel

This is our 6th year coming to the Portaferry Hotel. It's become like a second home. Room 12 is perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids. The staff are all very friendly, especially Siobhan in reception. Nothing is a problem. The food is absolutely beautiful. The discount for the Aquarium is a great bonus. Lot's to do locally. Castle Ward, St Patrick's grave and the Cathedral in Downpatrick plus the museum right beside it. This is a beautiful corner of Ireland. Highly recommend a visit.
