Very friendly staff and a nice warm welcome. The food was very tasty, well presented and good portion sizes. Good menu selection for meat eaters and vegetarians. It’s a shame my stomach wasn’t big enough for a dessert as they also have a good dessert choice.

We have just had a meal at the VA today, we didn’t book but there plenty of room for us and my son could easily sit in his wheel chair at the table. This is refreshing because so many tables are too low and this means that he can’t get completely underneath making it challenging to be close to the table so that he can eat his food comfortably. Staff were very friendly , the service was really excellent and food was really good. My son and husband had the 8oz burgers with chips and onion rings , I had fish and chips and our daughter had a cheese panini with chips. The food came out hot, fresh and plentiful, the chips were amazing! We will definitely be going back.

Went here to have Sunday Dinner. The staff are very friendly. Large selection of food at a reasonable price. Being a vegetarian, plumped for the Nut Roast. They make the best I have ever tasted. When inquired was told that it is made by the owner herself, superb. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Disabled friendly car park, small step to enter premises. Would highly recommend

Not a good experience last night (14/10/25)two out of the four mains were wrong dishes( burgers instead of steaks) which means two of the group we were with had to wait another ten minutes for they mains, the meals themselves were not ideal for £20 a head food, steaks ,lots of fat and gristle, hunters chicken was smoothed in BBQ sauce and the curry to hot, bill come to over £100 which is excessive for the quality. This place is a very hot and cold establishment, a few months ago,it was amazing ( expensive) but not on this occasion, not recommended anymore. The reason why the wrong mains were bought to the table was a lie and was a mistake by the waitress ( a member of our group used to work at the Ash and knows the mistake " reason"would not happen, poor). In response to the owners recent comment i wouldn't say i was angry at our experience at the Virginia Ash just let down and disappointed,£105 is a lot of money for a family meal out and we do try to keep it as cheap for us as possible ( ordering one drink each and water ) but for a £20 a head pub/ restaurant you should really be on the ball with the whole hospitality customer satisfaction interface, we as a family have been dining at the Ash for over thirty years ever since the original family ran it back in the late eighties, with unique dishes like caundle pie, game pie and the famous VA mixed grill so i have seen the ash change over the years ,transitioning from a good reputation to not so good then good again coinciding with change of management, it seems the ash is on a downer again but hopefully will pick up soon, not like the original days( it will never be like that again) but a better experience for all.In regards to the other negative comments, it really wasn't that good food,as mentioned the hunters chicken ,very over powering with the BBQ sauce and steaks, lots of gristle, if you noted how much was not eaten that alone should give some feed back if the diners enjoyed they meal,in our case ( mainly the steak dishes) alot was left,it was just un eatable however the complimentary chocolates were really nice and substituted for the pricey desserts.

Christmas dinner party and there were at least 2 other parties there too. Staff were lovely. Food ok only critisism was my parsnip wasnt cooked enough, but considering they were catering for 50+ people I think they did very well. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening. Just 1 more thing..... please wipe the tables with something that does not leave a sticky residue.

Popped in for dinner this evening on the way home. The bar staff were lovely very friendly and accommodating. We had the mixed grill and Chicken Tikka. Wow is all I can say. The portion sizes were huge , food was fresh hot and very tasty. My partner fancies himself as a mixed grill king and he said this was the nicest he had ever had . I loved the curry there was so much chicken , hot fluffy rice and a lovely soft nan bread presented beautifully. We will definitely be returning very soon . Great value for money , lovely little pub , good food and lovely staff.
